Have you ever arrived at a campground only to find that the site infrastructure was designed such that the utility hookups are 30 feet apart in opposite directions? Have you ever arrived at a campground to discover that the water spigot is only a couple of inches off the ground, or that the electrical box is situated so low that when you plug in your surge protector, it’s lying flat on the ground just waiting for the rain to come? What about plugging in the power to discover an old worn-out breaker, or not being able to see the spider that has made its home under that box as you are lifting it? Have you hooked up to the water only to discover there’s just enough pressure for a drip to come out of your shower? What about the septic connection that goes uphill? How many times have you encountered a completely useless picnic table or fire ring at your site due to placement or needed parking space?
Smart campsite design is one of the many things Camp Travelhick offers. Power and water connections are situated together near the back side of the camping pads, where most campers will find it practical. The 50/30/20-amp RV style electrical boxes are of high quality and located at eye level, so no more surge protectors laying on the ground. The water spigots are tall enough that you don’t need to sit on the ground to connect to them. You can connect your camper’s water filter without the concern of kinking your filter hose. Extra-large diameter water lines were installed to ensure you get as much water pressure as your camper will allow. Motion-activated lighting is installed at each of the two sites to assist in nighttime connections.
No more wasting time positioning your camper on blocks to level it: both the concrete slab on site-#1 and the hard-packed gravel on site-#2 are engineered to be level.
Site-#1 is a large 40×60 cement slab. It is outfitted with a 50/30/20-amp RV connection and dual water spigots. It has two modern septic connections at the back of the pad. The dual septic connections allow larger motor homes with dual black tanks to connect at the same time.
Site-#2 is a hard-packed gravel. It is outfitted with a 50/30/20-amp RV connection and a single water spigot. There is also a septic dump station located near the back gate for guest usage.
At Camp Travelhick, the main fire pit is located a safe distance away from the camping sites. So, no more concerns about embers hitting your awning or taking up valuable parking space. The pavilion shelters two large family-style round picnic tables, four fans, interior lighting, campground spotlights and a bug zapper to keep your festivities comfortable, even at night with low level mood lighting.
Hi, my name is David. Since childhood, the outdoors has been my second home. I grew up tent-camping, whether it was my parents’ backyard or deep in the piney woods of northeast Texas. Getting older taught me many things – one being that my enthusiasm for the outdoors rivaled that of comfort – so, I upgraded the sleeping bag to a teardrop camper, and then most recently to a full size towable.
Even though my profession does not lend itself to enjoying the outdoors as much as I would like to, I try to get away on camping trips to enjoy nature trails or do a little fishing, as time allows. For me, spending time in a natural setting greatly relieves the stress of day-to-day life.
I do not live onsite, but I am just a call or text message away and I try to always respond very quickly.
When the pandemic started, many of us were confined to our own areas of the world with little to no means to travel. Camping parks were closed in many areas, and those which were not closed had lengthy wait lists for campsites. Even now, with the pandemic behind us, campsites are still scarce, with most state parks booked a year out. You could say that Camp Travelhick was born of necessity. I began my search for a property in which I could build out for private camping. After almost a year of searching for the perfect property, and many months of development, Camp Travelhick opened its doors July 30, 2022 in Eufaula, Alabama. Since opening, we have continued to improve and add new amenities to the campground property.
At Camp Travelhick, we think that pets should enjoy camping just as much as their owners do. For this reason, the entire 1.3 acres of the campground area is fenced with pet-friendly fencing. Feel free to allow your fur babies to safely roam as much as you want.
The range has a covered area that allows standing and bench shooting. Three backstops are located exactly at 15, 50, and 100 yards. The 100-yard backstop has been reinforced to allow for .50 caliber rifles. The range is marked with a yellow safety chain and the only trail that goes behind the range has been blocked off with warning signs. Please note: Use of the range is at your own risk and is only open when the campground is rented by a single party. This means sites 1 and 2 cannot host guests who do not belong to the same group. Additional liability waiver required by all users before use.
The fishing pond offers a covered and lighted dock. Solar powered overhead lighting as well as color changing lights pointing down to the water, allowing for night fishing or just to relax while enjoying the sounds of nature. A 10ft Jon boat with paddles for those who want to be out on the water is also available. Life vests are not provided so you should bring your own if needed. The covered boat and fishing dock also has an automatic fish feeder. Around 8:30 am and 4:30 pm daily, you can watch (and hear) the frenzied fish eating and splashing for a free lunch. The pond is stocked with bluegill, tiger bass, channel catfish, and sun perch along with minnows and shiners to provide additional live bait for the bass. The pond is spring fed, causing the water to be at a cooler temperature than other ponds of its size. With the spring as a constant source of freshwater, and the fish being fed a high protein food, many guests have enjoyed catching dinner or just catch-and-release.
The blind is elevated about 10 feet from the ground with stairs. It is fully enclosed with a 360-degree view and is furnished with two chairs. It offers both bow and gun style windows for the hunter’s convenience. The elevated safety of the blind also allows nature lovers the chance to catch a glimpse of wild animals who call the woods of Camp Travelhick home. Automatic feeders located on the property attract all sorts of wildlife; the trail cameras have caught squirrels, birds, turkey, raccoons, opossums, rabbits, coyotes, bobcats, hogs, and lots of deer. Please note: Use of the viewing station is at your own risk and is only open as a hunting blind when the campground is rented by a single party. This means sites 1 and 2 cannot host guests who do not belong to the same group. Additional liability waiver required by all users before using as a hunting blind. If using as a nature viewing station, (no firearms or bows) then a liability waiver is not required prior to use.
At Camp Travelhick, the maintained trails are numerous and can provide hours of walking or plenty of ATV riding. Several trails are specifically designed for ATVs with deep ruts and steep inclines. Many of the trails are marked. New hiking and ATV trails have been added in 2023.
